Wellesley Fencing Wins Twice at Northeast Conference Meet

DURHAM, N.H. -- The Wellesley College fencing team picked up a pair of victories at the second Northeast Conference meet of the season, held this weekend at the University of New Hampshire. The Blue recorded wins over Boston University and Smith at the event, while falling to Boston College, Dartmouth, Vassar, and Tufts.

The event closed out Wellesley's 2013-14 dual meet schedule with an overall record of 10-14, including a 3-9 mark in the Northeast Fencing Conference.

Wellesley picked up 21-6 wins over both Smith and BU. Against Smith, Wellesley's foil squad came away with an 8-1 win, while sabre won 7-2, and epee won 6-3. In the match against BU, all three squads picked up 7-2 victories.

The Blue also kept things close in losses to Dartmouth (14-13), Vassar (15-12) and Tufts (17-10), while also falling at the hands of BC, 23-4. Against Dartmouth, the sabre squad posted an 8-1 win, while the epee squad came away with a 5-4 win. Against Vassar, sabre won, 7-2, and foil narrowly fell, 5-4. Wrapping up the meet highlights, the Blue epee squad posted a 5-4 win over Tufts. 

Individually, first-year Jasmine Davis led the Blue with a 13-5 record on the day, competing in sabre. Junior Kathryn Ledbetter (epee) and first-year Jessica Guo (foil) were next on the Blue, each picking up 12-6 records. Sophomore Charlotte Treadwell (epee) recorded 11 victories on the day, while senior Dania Wright (sabre) notched 10 wins.

Also for the Blue, first-year Alice Xu (sabre) picked up eight wins on the day, while first-year Pamela Wang and sophomore Camille Samulski recorded totals of seven and six wins in foil. 

Wellesley fencing will next compete at the New England Championships. The event is being hosted by Mount Holyoke on February 22nd.
