Blue Fencing Takes On Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard University swept to a 27-0 victory over Wellesley College fencing on Thursday night at the Malkin Athletic Center, in the first match-up between the two sides since 2000. Wellesley is now 7-7 in duals this season.

The Crimson, who finished seventh at last season's NCAA Championships, swept to 9-0 wins in epee, foil and sabre.

Blue first year Cassandra Cronin (Johns Creek, Ga.) battled within one touch of a victory in epee, dropping a 5-4 bout to fellow first year Sharon Ra (New City, N.Y). In foil, sophomore Taylor Hood (Lexington, Ky.) also fought to a narrow 5-4 decision to sophomore MacKenzie Lawrence (Lewaood, Kan.).

Hood was one of four Wellesley fencers to score at least one touch in all three of her matches, along with senior Charlotte Treadwell (Burlington, Vt.), junior Jasmine Davis (Long Valley, N.J.) and first year Jennifer Chien (Chicago, Ill.).

Tonight's match-up concludes the first semester schedule for the Blue. Wellesley fencing will return to action on January 26, 2016 with a Tuesday night match-up at Brandeis.
