WALTHAM, Mass. – Host Brandeis University won all three weapons to earn a 19-8 victory over Wellesley College fencing on Tuesday evening at the Gosman Athletic Center. The Judges hove now won four in-a-row in the annual dual between the two schools.

Brandies improves to 14-4 on the season with the win, while Wellesley is now 7-8 overall.

The Blue suffered a narrow setback in foil, behind a pair of wins from sophomore Taylor Hood (Lexington, Ky.). Hood went 2-1 in her bouts, surrendering just three touches in her pair of victories, before falling to senior Caroline Mattos (Providence, R.I.) in the deciding bout. First year Jennifer Chien (Chicago, Ill.) and senor Camille Samulski (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also registered foil victories for the Blue, helping to rally Wellesley from a 4-2 deficit and tie the dual in their final bouts. First year Joanne Carminucci (Brewster, N.Y.) led the Judges with a 2-0 record.

First year Cassandra Cronin (Johns Creek, Ga.) was the only other member of the Blue to win two bouts on the evening, going 2-1 in epee, as the Blue were defeated 6-3 in the matchup. After Brandeis swept the first three bouts behind wins from seniors Sonya Glickman (Valhalla, N.Y.) and Gwendolyn Mowell (Wyckoff, N.J.) and sophomore Liz Feller (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.), Cronin earned wins in each of her final two bouts to help the Blue split the remaining six match-ups. Senior Charlotte Treadwell (Burlington, Vt.) also scored a win for the Blue in epee.

Brandeis put the meet away in Sabre, taking a commanding 8-1 win. Sophomore Laura Broffman (East Norwich, N.Y.) and junior Nina Sayles (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) each recorded 3-0 records, respectively, while senior Deborah Abiri (Old Westbury, N.Y.) went 2-1. First year Meg Harney (Wilmette, Ill.) was the only Wellesley fencer to win a bout, as she topped Abiri, 5-2.

Wellesley returns to action on Saturday, February 6, at the third Northeast Fencing Conference meet of the season. Brandeis will host the Eric Sollee Invitational on Saturday, January 30, at 9:00 AM.
