Blue Fencing Competes at 2016 NCAA Northeast Regional

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Wellesley College fencing closed out the 2015-16 season on Sunday afternoon, as six fencers competed at the 2016 NCAA Northeast Regional Championships at Vassar College's Walker Field House. 

Sophomore Taylor Hood (Lexington, Ky.) was Wellesley's highest finisher at this year's NCAA Regional, taking 26th overall and eighth among Division III competitors in women's foil. Hood was one of two Wellesley fencers to advance out of the first round of pool competition, going 2-2 in her opening pool while sporting a +4 touch ratio. Hood then secured a victory in round two, going 1-5 overall, before seeing her day come to an end. First year Jennifer Chien (Chicago, Ill.) also went 2-2 with +2 touch ratio in the opening round of foil, before finishing in 35th place following a winless second round.

In épée, senior Charlotte Treadwell (Burlington, Vt.) capped her Wellesley career with a team best 29th place finish, 11th among Division III competitors. Treadwell was a perfect 4-0 in her opening round pool, finishing with a +11 touch ratio. Treadwell advanced to the second round, going 1-5 overall to end the day. Also competing in epee, first year Cassandra Cronin (Johns Creek, Ga.) finished 34th after going 2-2 in the opening round, with an even touch ratio, and winless in round two.

First year Meg Harney (Wilmette, Ill.) added a 31st place finish in sabre, taking 10th among Division III participants thanks to a 3-1 record with +10 touch ratio in the opening round. Harney went 1-5 in round two. Sophomore Madeleine Barowsky (Framingham, Mass.) wasn't far behind Harney, taking 34th overall in sabre. Barowsky also went 3-1 in the opening round, sporting a +7 touch ratio, before going winless in round two.

The Blue conclude the 2015-16 season with a 10-10 overall record in head-to-head competition. Wellesley took 7th out of 13 teams at the 2016 NEIFC Championships, hosting this year's event at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse.
