Brewer-Wallin, Maurer Win Bouts as Fencing Falls to Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior Emma Brewer-Wallin (Salem, Ore.) and first year Brie Maurer (Fredericksburg, Va.) each earned bout victories, but Wellesley College fencing fell to host Harvard University in a midweek match-up between the two teams on Wednesday evening at the Malkin Athletic Center.

Brewer-Wallin secured the Blue's only victory in epee, earning a 5-4 win over Harvard sophomore Julia Carstens (Wynnewood, Pa.) in her first bout. At the time, Brewer-Wallin's win tied the overall score at 1-1, but the Crimson put together seven-straight epee win to take the 8-1 final.

Maurer scored a late victory in Wellesley's foil match-up with the Crimson, getting the final touch to defeat sophomore Liana Henderson-Semel (Millwood, N.Y.), 5-4, to get the Blue on the board. The Crimson would finish with an 8-1 win in foil and a 9-0 sweep in Sabre.

Wellesley will close out their first semester schedule on Saturday, December 10, at the LIU Post Invitational in Brookville, N.Y. Action begins at 8:30 AM.
