A total of 29 Wellesley College spring sport student-athletes have been honored for their academic excellence in the classroom by the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) and the Liberty League.

Wellesley College fencing Head Coach Ariana Klinkov and the Blue coaching staff have been named Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) Women's Team Coaching Staff of the Year. This is Wellesley's first time receiving this honor.

After arriving on campus as a volleyball recruit, injuries sidelined Meg Harney '19, ending her volleyball career. However, an email about the Wellesley fencing program changed her experience as a Division III student-athlete, leading to the start of a great career in fencing. Below, Meg describes how she found a home with the fencing team and went from a novice to an NCAA regional qualifier, just as the Blue fencing program started a four-year rise to prominence that culminated in an NEIFC 3-weapon championship and a program record 23 wins this season.

Junior Brie Maurer (Fredericksburg, Va.) took 9th overall in foil and sophomore Julia Calventus-Coveney (Barcelona, Spain) finished 12th overall in epee to lead Wellesley College fencing at the 2019 NCAA Northeast Regional, hosted by Columbia University on Sunday at Vassar College.

The Blue were the top women's team at the NEIFC Championships.

Wellesley College fencing won the Women’s 3-Weapon Team Title and Sabre Squad Championship and sophomore Julia Calventus-Coveney (Barcelona, Spain) won the individual gold medal in epee at the 2019 New England Intercollegiate Fencing Conference (NEIFC) Championships, as the Blue hosted the event on Saturday at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse. The NEIFC 3-Weapon Team Championship is the first in Blue program history.

Wellesley College fencing will host the 2019 New England Intercollegiate Fencing Conference (NEIFC) Championships on Saturday, March 2, at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse. Admission for the event is free and competition is scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM.

The four NFC All-Star selections is the most for the Blue since 2006-07 (Frank Poulin).

Four members of the Wellesley College fencing team have earned Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) All-Star honors for the 2018-19 season. Sophomores Julia Calventus-Coveney (Barcelona, Spain) and Lauren Park (Wayne, N.J.) each earned First Team selections, while junior Brie Maurer (Fredericksburg, Va.) and first year Yasemin Ersen (Newton, Mass.) were named to the Second Team in their respective weapons.

First year Yasemin Ersen (Newton, Mass.) was 16-0 in sabre to lead Wellesley College fencing to a 5-1 record at the third Northeast Fencing Conference meet of the season on Saturday at Tufts. The Blue defeated Tufts, Smith, UMass, Boston University, and Dartmouth but fell to Dartmouth. 

Hanamei Shao and the sabre squad earned a dominating 9-0 win (Frank Poulin).
Wellesley Fencing Downs Brandeis In Front of Packed Crowd, 19-8

Wellesley College fencing earned a 9-0 victory in sabre and an 8-1 win in epee to down visiting Brandeis University, 19-8, in front of a packed crowd at the Keohane Sports Center on Tuesday evening. The visiting Judges took the win in foil, 7-2.

Wellesley College fencing will welcome crosstown rival Brandeis University to the Keohane Sports Center's Multipurpose Gym on Tuesday evening, January 29th, at 7:00 PM. The event will be PERA's second #EarnTheW Day of 2018-19 with FREE pizza and giveaways for students and fans in attendance.

Wellesley College fencing closed out the fall semester by splitting a pair of matches on Tuesday evening at the Malkin Athletic Center. The Blue fell 24-3 to host Harvard but bounced back to earn a 17-10 victory over Tufts. Wellesley is now 17-5 overall.

Wellesley College fencing sophomore Julia Calventus-Coveney (Barcelona, Spain) posted a 15-0 record in epee to lead the Blue to a 4-2 mark at the first Northeast Fencing Conference Meet of the season on Saturday at MIT. Wellesley defeated UNH, MIT, Sacred Heart and Brandeis, but dropped close finals to Boston College and Brown.

Wellesley College fencing put together a 5-2 record over seven rounds of competition on Sunday at the Vassar Invitational. The Blue defeated CCNY, Yeshiva, Wagner, LIU Post and Haverford to improve to 12-2 overall on the season.

Wellesley College fencing posted a perfect 7-0 record on Sunday at the season opening LIU Post Invitational. The Blue earned 152 bout victories, more than any other school at the event, while defeating Wagner, Yeshiva, NJIT, Hunter, FDU, Drew, and LIU Post.

Bridget Belgiovine, Director of Athletics and Chair of the Department of Physical Education, Recreation, and Athletics at Wellesley College has announced the hiring of Taylor Hood '18 as Assistant Coach for the Blue fencing program. Hood will work alongside Head Coach Ariana Klinkov, who was Hood's coach during her final three seasons with the Blue.
