Taylor Hood '18 Named Assistant Fencing Coach at Wellesley

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Bridget Belgiovine, Director of Athletics and Chair of the Department of Physical Education, Recreation, and Athletics at Wellesley College has announced the hiring of Taylor Hood '18 as Assistant Coach for the Blue fencing program. Hood will work alongside Head Coach Ariana Klinkov, who was Hood's coach during her final three seasons with the Blue. 

Hood posted a winning record in four straight seasons at Wellesley, most recently going 40-24 in foil during the 2017-18 campaign. The team captain during her senior season, Hood helped the Blue to an overall record of 20-9 as Wellesley posted the first 20-win campaign for the program since the 2010-11 season. 

Hood qualified for the NCAA Northeast Regional in each of her four years and finished as an NEIFC medalist in 2016 following a fifth place finish in foil. Hood's top mark at an NCAA regional came during her first year, when she finished 19th overall and fifth amonth Division III competitors in foil. She also added a 21st place finish as a junior, taking sixth among Division III fencers. 

Hood was one of nine Wellesley fencers to qualify for last year's NCAA Northeast Regional. Six of those fencers are slated to return from last seasons squad. The full 2018-2019 Wellesley fencing schedule will be announced at a later date.
