Klinkov, Blue Fencing Coaches Named NFC Coaching Staff of the Year

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College fencing Head Coach Ariana Klinkov and the Blue coaching staff have been named Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) Women's Team Coaching Staff of the Year. This is Wellesley's first time receiving the NFC's Women's Team Coaching Staff of the Year honor.

The honor is bestowed by the coaches and captains of the conference in recognition of excellence in coaching. Klinkov and assistant coaches Rob Charlton and Taylor Hood '18 helped the program post its strongest ever season in the NFC, earning a share of third place among women's teams in the conference with nine team victories in 12 bouts. 

In NFC bouts, sophomore Julia Calventus-Coveney (Barcelona, Spain) was 28-2 in women's epee, while sophomore Lauren Park was 27-4 in women's sabre. Both fencers earned first team NFC All-Star honors. Junior Brie Maurer (Fredericksburg, Va.) posted a 27-5 mark in women's foil and first year Yasemin Ersen went 26-6 in women's sabre in earn second time honors.

Wellesley had a program-best 23-5 record across all competitions in 2018-19, advancing ten fencers to this year's NCAA Regional. The Blue also captured the Three-Weapon title at this year's NEIFC Championships.
