Golf Places 10th Overall at Vassar Invitational
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Wellesley College golf team finished 10th overall at the two-day Vassar College Invitational that wrapped up on Sunday afternoon. The event was held at the par-72, 5,800-year Casperkill Golf Club.
Wellesley shaved seven strokes off its day one total, finished with a two-day score of 727. The Blue shot a day one 367 and then improved to shoot a 360 on day two.
Leading the way for the Blue was senior Alexandra Fuiks who ranked 31st overall, finishing with a 173. Fuiks shot an 88 on day one and then knocked her score down by three strokes on day two, recording a round of 85. Junior Alexandria Lee also recorded a top-40 finish at the event, shooting a 180 (89-91) to rank 39th in the field.
Also for the Blue, first-year Jacqueline Lu and sophomore Lei Wei tied for 48th place, while juniorHaneen Anbarserri was 56th. Lu shot rounds of 91 and 96 to finish with a 187, while Wei shot 99 and 88 for a 187. Anbarserri finished with a 201 total, with rounds of 105 and 96.
Williams College was the team champion at the event with a team score of 633, besting Ithaca College by 17 strokes. Rebecca Studin of Cortland and Sharon Li of Ithaca each posted two-day totals of +10, but Studin made par on the second playoff hole while Li registered a bogey to give Studin the individual crown.
Wellesley golf is back in action at the two-day Jack Leaman Invitational, hosted by Amherst College on April 19th and 20th.
