Wellesley Golf Competes at Williams Invitational

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Wellesley College golf team placed 12th out of 15 teams at the Williams Fall Invitational. The two-day event was held at the par-71, 5,819-yard Taconi Golf Club.

As a team, Wellesley was steady over the two-day tournament.  The Blue shot a 380 as a group on day one, and a 383 on day two. At 763, Wellesley finished two strokes behind 11th place Hamilton, and edged out Bowdoin by nine strokes.

Individually, first-year Maya Muldowney was Wellesley's top finisher. The rookie showed improvement on day two, improving on a first-round score of 93 and finishing day two carding an 89, ranking her 40th out of 83 competitors.

Junior Lei Wei was the Blue's next finisher, carding rounds of 88 and 101 to finish with a 189, good for a 51st place tie. Senior Haneen Anbarserri shot two rounds of 97, finishing in a three-way tie for 55th place.  Senior Becca Berger shaved six strokes off of her day-one total, tallying a 96 on day-two in a tie for 61st place.

Williams took the team title at the event, shooting a two-day score of 624 (315-309). Ithaca placed second (641), followed by New York University (646). Williams' Shelby Shote shot rounds of 73 and 75 (148) to earn medalist honors, while Ithaca's Sharon Li took second place with a 152. 

Wellesley golf returns to action next weekend, hosting the 2013 Ann S. Batchelder Invitational. The two day tournament will be hosted at the Nehoiden Golf Course on the campus of Wellesley College.
