Day One Complete as Wellesley Hosts the Ann. S. Batchelder Invitational

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Williams College leads after a cold, rainy first day at the Ann S. Batchelder Golf Invitational, hosted by Wellesley College. Now in its seventh year, the tournament is held at the par-72, 5,860-yard Nehoiden Golf Course on the campus of Wellesley College.

Williams, the current four-time defending champion at the event, recorded a day one total of 321. The Ephs have a 4-stroke lead over second-place NYU, and a 5-stroke lead over Mount Holyoke College, rounding out a tight top-three teams after the first day of play.

Middlebury is not far behind the top-three, shooting a 337, while Amherst (351), Vassar (369), and Wellesley (376) round out the top seven. William Smith stands in eighth with a day-one 397, while Westfield State is ninth with a 461.

Individually, all five Williams golfers are in the top-twenty after day one. Tracey Kim leads the group with a 75, while Shelby Shote (79), Kelly Kung (83), Phoebe Mattana (84), and Sarah Hasselman (86) are in sixth, tenth, 13th, and 19th place respectively. NYU has five golfers in the top 14, led by Lina Kim, currently in fourth place with a 78.  Jamie Gracie (Mount Holyoke) and Jamie Gracie (Amherst), are in third and fourth place after shooting a 75 and 77, respectively.

For Wellesley, junior Lei Wei leads the pack with a day-one score of 90. She is in 21st out of 48 competitors. First-year Maya Muldowney is tied for 27th after day one, carding a 94, while seniors Haneen Anbarserri and Becca Berger sit in a tie for 29th with matching scores of 96.

Also competing for the Blue, first-year Sam Lanevi shot a 99 on day one, ranking her tied for 34th. First years Kathleena Inchoco and Emily Smith both carded a 91 to tie for 37th, while sophomore Olivia Grochmal trails them by three strokes.

The tournament continues tomorrow morning with the second and final round beginning at 9:00am.
