Blue Golf Wraps Up Play at Vassar Invitational

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Wellesley College golf wrapped up play on day two of this weekend's 2016 Vassar Invitational at the Casperkill Golf Club.  Wellesley shaved four strokes off the team's round one score but remained in tenth place with a team score of 748 at the conclusion of play at the 5,852 yard, Par 72 course.

Williams College, led by individual champion Phoebe Mattana (Demarest, NJ) took home the team championship with a score of 627. The 12-team tournament also included squads from host Vassar College, Amherst College, Middlebury, SUNY Cortland, Saint Lawrence University, Ithaca College, Union College (NY), Mount Holyoke College, Hamilton College, and William Smith College.

The Blue recorded a final round 372 after putting up a score of 376 on Saturday. First-year Amy (Zilin) Jin (Shenzhen, China) and junior Lei Wei (Brentwood, Calif.) recorded the low scores of the weekend for Wellesley, finishing at 174 and 182, respectively.  Both Jin and Wei improved by four strokes from their day one totals.

Williams and Amherst finished with the top five golfers for the tournament; with Williams golfers securing the team win with first, second, and fifth-placed individual finishes.

Wellesley golf will continue the spring season next weekend at the two-day Jack Leaman Invitational, hosted by Amherst College.
