Blue Golf In Sixth Following Day One of Liberty League Championship

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College golf is in sixth place in the team standings following day one of the 2016 Liberty League Women's Golf Championships, hosted by Mount Holyoke College at The Orchards Golf Club.

New York University holds an 11-stroke lead after an opening round score of 322. The Violets lead second place St. Lawrence (333), while the host Lyons (345) sit in third, followed by Vassar (348), Union (369), the Blue (376) and William Smith (380).

Making her Liberty League Championship debut, Blue first year Amy (Zilin) Jin (Shenzhen, China) posted a round one score of 90 and is currently in a tie for 18th place. Sophomore Maya Muldowney (Waunakee, Wis.) finished four strokes back of Jin with a 94, good for a tie for 23rd place. Senior Lei Wei (Brentwood, Calif.) and first year Katie Lee (Portland, Ore.) fired match scored of 96 and are tied for 27th.

NYU first year Jenni Bluetling (Feldafing, Germany) recorded the top score on the day, shooting a 75 through the first 18 holes. St. Lawrence senior Claire O'Neil (Toronto, Ontario), the two-time defending medalist, is one stroke back with a score of 76.

Action at this year's tournament continues on Sunday as the field begins teeing off at 9:00 AM. The winner of the Liberty League Championship earns the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Championships.
