Strong Second Day Helps Blue Golf Take Fifth at Liberty League Championship

WELLESLEY, Mass. – A tremendous second day rally helped Wellesley College golf finish in fifth place in the team standings at the 2016 Liberty League Championship at The Orchards Golf Club. The Blue dropped 23 strokes from their opening day score to finish with a team score of 729 for the weekend.

New York University captured this year's championship and the Liberty League's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship with a weekend total of 644. NYU first year Jenni Bluetling (Feldafing, Germany) was the individual medalist with a two-day score of 155 (+11).

St. Lawrence (659) took second, followed by host Mount Holyoke (699) in third and Vassar (704) in fourth. The Blue rounded out the top five in the seven-team field. Wellesley's combined score of 353 on day two was the third best team score of the round behind only NYU and St. Lawrence.

Sophomore Maya Muldowney (Waunakee, Wis.) led the Blue charge up the leaderboard, dropping 11 strokes from her day one total to shoot an 83. Muldowney's performance helped move her from 23rd place on Saturday to a tie for 15th on Sunday.

After posting a team-best score on Saturday, first year Amy (Zilin) Jin (Shenzhen, China) improved on her round on Sunday, shooting an 88 to finish in a tie for 17th place with a two-day score of 178. Classmate first year Katie Lee (Portland, Ore.) and senior Lei Wei (Brentwood, Calif.) rounded out the Wellesley contingent with scores of 90 and 92, respectively. Lee finished in 24th place (186) and Wei finished in a tie for 25th (188).

The 2016 Liberty League Championship concludes the 2015-2016 season for Wellesley College golf.
