Amherst Leads After Day One of 2016 Ann S. Batchelder Invitational at Nehoiden

Wellesley Fifth in Team Standings; First Year Ryan MacVicar tied for ninth overall

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Amherst College leads the field with a score of 307 (+19) after day one of the 2016 Ann S. Batchelder Invitational at Wellesley College's Par 72, 5860 yard Nehoiden Golf Course.  The host Blue are currently in fifth place with a combined score of 328 (+40).

Amherst has a two-shot lead over second place Williams College, as the Ephs hold a combined score of 309 (+21). New York University is in third with a score of 316 (+28), followed by Middlebury (321) in fourth, the Blue in fifth, Mount Holyoke College (348) in sixth and Vassar (354) in seventh.

Amherst first year Morgan Yurosek (Irvine, Calif.) is atop the individual leaderboard thanks to her first round score of 73 (+1). Teammate Kate Weiss (Greenwich, N.Y.) trails by two strokes after firing an opening round 75 (+3). Williams teammates Phoebe Mattana (Demarest, N.J.) and Cordelia Chan (Windsor, Ontario) are currently tied for third following matching rounds of 76 (+4). Mattana was the individual medalist at last year's tournament.

The host Blue were led by Ryan MacVicar (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) on day one, as the first year opened her weekend with a first round 78. MacVicar is currently tied for ninth overall. Sophomore Annika Vandayar (Garnet Valley, Pa.) added a round of 82 for the Blue, while first years Kalau Tanaka-Pesamino (Ewa Beach, Hawai'i) and Naomi Kim (Troy, Mich.) each recorded scores of 84. Sophomore Amy (Zilin) Jin (Shenzhen, China) rounded out the Blue's team score with a round of 93.

Playing as individuals, Wellesley junior Maya Muldowney (Waunakee, Wis.) is tied for 27th after recording a score of 85, while first year Isabelle Chun (Palo Alto, Calif.) is in a tie for 34th with a score of 87. 

The final round of the 2016 Ann S. Batchelder Invitational will begin at 9:00 AM on Sunday, September 18.

Now in its ninth year, the Ann S. Batchelder Invitational takes place annually at Wellesley's Par 72, 5,860 yard Nehoiden Golf Course. Ann S. Batchelder has been an active supporter of Wellesley Athletics for over 40 years and will be inducted into the Wellesley Athletics Hall of Fame next month.
