Blue Golf Takes Fifth at Batchelder Invitational; Amherst Wins Team Title

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Amherst College finished with a two-day score of 616 to win the team title at the 2016 Ann S. Batchelder Invitational at Wellesley College's Par 72, 5860 yard Nehoiden Golf Course on Sunday afternoon.  In addition, Amherst first year Morgan Yurosek (Irvine, Calif.) was the individual medalist with a two-day score of 149.

Host Wellesley finished in fifth place, totaling a team score of 655 on their home course. Seven-time tournament champion Williams College was second, trailing rival Amherst by four strokes (620). New York University (628) finished third, while Middlebury College (650) took fourth. Wellesley, Mount Holyoke College (691) and Vassar (700) rounded out the field. 

Yurosek added a score of 76 on Sunday to her opening round 73 to finish at five-over par (149) for the weekend and earn individual medalist honors in her first collegiate appearance at Nehoiden. Teammate Jamie Gracie (Long Beach, Calif.) led all players with a 74 on Sunday, jumping up the leaderboard to finish second overall after starting the day in a tie for ninth place. Williams College junior Sophie Kitchen (Collingwood, Ontario) took third, matching her first day round of 77 to finish at ten-over par (154).

Wellesley first year Ryan MacVicar (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) fired a 79 on Sunday to finished with a score of 157 for the weekend. Annika Vandayar followed (Garnet Valley, Pa.) MacVicar, as the sophomore dropped a stroke from her opening round, shooting an 81 to finish at 163 for the weekend. First year Kalau Tanaka-Pesamino (Ewa Beach, Hawai'i) finished one-stroke ahead of classmate Naomi Kim (Troy, Mich.) as the duo shot 84 and 83, respectively. Sophomore Amy (Zilin) Jin (Shenzhen, China) added a round of 88 on Sunday. 

Wellesley individuals Maya Muldowney (Waunakee, Wis.) and first year Isabelle Chun (Palo Alto, Calif.) added rounds of 83 and 87, respectively. Muldowney finished the weekend with a score of 168 and Chun finished with a combined mark of 174.

Now in its ninth year, the Ann S. Batchelder Invitational takes place annually at Wellesley's Par 72, 5,860 yard Nehoiden Golf Course. Ann S. Batchelder has been an active supporter of Wellesley Athletics for over 40 years and will be inducted into the Wellesley Athletics Hall of Fame next month.
