Blue Golf Takes Fifth Place at Mount Holyoke Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College golf fired a combined score of 330 on Sunday to close out the Mount Holyoke Invitational at the Orchards Golf Club in fifth place. The Blue concluded play with a total score of 659, adding Sunday's round to their team score of 329 on the tournament's first day.

Williams College earned the team title at the event with a two-day score of 601, the Ephs were followed by rival Amherst College (621) in second, as Amherst dropped seven strokes on the tournament's second day to pass third place New York University (623) in the final standings. Middlebury College (628) took fourth, while Wellesley rounded out the top-five in the field of 14 teams. Williams junior Phoebe Mattana (Demarest, N.J.) won individual medalist honors with a score of 147.

Junior Maya Muldowney (Waunakee, Wis.) had the low score for the Blue on Sunday, firing a round of 79 to finish at 168 for the weekend. Wellesley first year Kalau Tanaka-Pesamino (Ewa Beach, Hawai'i) added a round of 81 to finish the weekend at 164. Tanaka-Pesamino was just behind first year Ryan MacVicar (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) in the overall standings, as MacVicar posted the top overall score for the Blue in the tournament at 160 to tie for 20th.

Sophomores Amy (Zilin) Jin (Shenzhen, China) and Annika Vandayar (Garnet Valley, Pa.) rounded out the Wellesley scores on Sunday with scores of 86 and 87, respectively. Jin had a weekend total of 175 and Vandayar finished the event in 168 strokes.

Blue golf travels to Taconic Golf Course in Williamstown, Mass. for the 2016 Williams Invitational next Saturday and Sunday, October 1 & 2. First round play begins at noon on Saturday.
