Wellesley Golf Finishes In Ninth Place At Vassar Invitational

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – First year Ryan MacVicar (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) dropped five strokes from her opening-round score to shoot a team-leading 81 (+9) and lead Wellesley College golf to a ninth place (692) finish at the 2017 Vassar Invitational at the Par-72, 5,849 Yard Casperkill Golf Club. The Blue dropped 28 strokes as a team on day two, shooting a combined 337 after combining for a score of 355 on Saturday. 

All five Wellesley players in the field lowered their scores on day two. MacVicar jumped up three spots to finish in a tie for 25th place, after ending day one in a tie for 28th with fellow Wellesley first year Kalau Tanaka-Pesamino (Ewa Beach, Hawai'i). Tanaka-Pesamino dropped three strokes from her opening round 86, shooting an 83 (+11) to remain in 28th at the end of play. MacVicar took full advantage on the Par-3s at Casperkill, finishing among the top-five players in the field with a +1 score on holes 3, 8, 12 and 16.

First year Naomi Kim (Troy, Mich.) and sophomore Annika Vandayar (Garnet Valley, Pa.) each dropped seven strokes from day one to day two, with Kim shooting a second round score of 85 (+13) to improve on her opening round 93. Vandayar also dropped under 90 with a second round 89 (+17), after opening the weekend with a 96. Junior Maya Muldowney (Waunakee, Wis.) remained consistent, shooting an 88 (+16) on Sunday after carding a 90 on Saturday.

Williams shot a 300 to surpass NYU and win the tournament. Individually, Kimberly Wong of Ithaca College was the medalist with a score of 152 (+8).

Wellesley golf continues the spring season on Saturday and Sunday, April 15 and 16, at the Jack Leaman Invitational, hosted by Amherst College at the Hickory Ridge, G.C.
