Wellesley Golf Jumps Up To Seventh Place To Conclude Jack Leaman Invitational

AMHERST, Mass. -- Wellesley College golf saw six of the team's seven players drop their scores from day one to finish in seventh place at the 2017 Jack Leaman Invitational, hosted by Amherst College at the Par 74, 5,272 yard Hickory Ridge Golf Club. The Blue entered the day in eighth after shooting 350 as a team on Saturday, but shot a collective score of 333 on Sunday to improve their team score by 17 strokes and finish with a total score of 683.

First year Ryan MacVicar (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) dropped seven strokes from day one, shooting a 78 (+4) to move from 22nd place to 20th place on the leaderboard with a combined score of 163. Classmate Naomi Kim (Troy, Mich.) matched her opening round 85 (+11) with an 85 on Sunday to finish in 32nd place with a score of 170.

Junior Maya Muldowney (Waunakee, Wis.) and sophomore Amy (Zilin) Jin (Shenzhen, China) matched Kim with rounds of 85 on Sunday, as Muldowney finished in 37th with a score of 173 after firing an 88 on Sunday. Jin matched MacVicar by dropping seven strokes from her first round score, finishing in a tie for 40th with a 177 thanks to rounds of 92 on Saturday and 85 on Sunday. Sophomore Annika Vandayar (Garnet Valley, Pa.) completed the team score with a round of 88 to finish at 181 for the weekend after shooting 93 on Saturday.

Competing as individuals for Wellesley, first year Isabelle Chun (Palo Alto, Calif.) fired a 93 after her opening round 86 to finish in a tie for 43rd place, while first year Olivia de Cuba (Bilthoven, The Netherlands) finished the weekend with a 99, improving five strokes from day one.

New York University (NYU), which held first place after day one with a score of 310 on Saturday, registered a round of 300 on Sunday to secure first place honors with an overall score of 610. Williams College (316-300-616) finished in second, while Amherst placed third (324-304-628). Ithaca College (336-323-659) and Mount Holyoke College (340-324-664) rounded out the top five teams in the 11-squad field.

Individual medalist honors went to NYU's Jennifer Bluetling who shot a two-under-par 72 and finished with a two-day total of 146. Williams' Cordelia Chan finished in second with a round of 72 on Sunday en route to a two-day total of 147

Wellesley will conclude the 2016-17 regular season next weekend at the 2017 Liberty League Championships, Saturday and Sunday, April 22 and 23, at the Spook Rock Golf Course in Suffern, N.Y. This year's conference championships are hosted by NYU and the first round begins at 9:00 AM on Saturday.
