Blue Golf In 3rd; Matches Program Best Round at Batchelder Invitational

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College golf sophomores Kalau Tanaka-Pesamino (Ewa Beach, Hawai'i) and Ryan MacVicar (Tuscalossa, Ala.) shot matching rounds of 76 and are currently tied for second place after day one of the 10th annual Ann S. Batchelder Invitational at Wellesley's Nehoiden Golf Course. 

First year Morgan Yi (Jericho, N.Y.) of Vassar College leads the field by four strokes thanks to an even par round of 72. Tanaka-Pesamino and MacVicar are tied with 2016 Ann S. Batchelder Invitational individual medalist Morgan Yurosek (Irvine, Calif.), after the Amherst College sophomore also shot a 76 on the tournament's opening day.

Yurosek's Amherst squad leads the team standings with a score of 309, with rival Williams College trailing by two strokes (311) in second. Wellesley is third after matching the best overall team score for a round at Nehoiden in program history with a score of 316. Middlebury is fourth (319), followed by Vassar in fifth (333) and Mount Holyoke (347) in sixth.  

Wellesley sophomore Isabelle Chun (Palo Alto, Calif.) is in a tie for 15th place thanks to a score of 80 on Saturday. Senior Maya Muldowney (Waunakee, Wis.) is tied for 22nd place with a score of 84, but is tied for the tournament lead in birdies with three. First year Rosey Li (Princeton, N.J.) added a score of 86 to round out Wellesley's team contingent. 

Playing as individuals for the Blue, sophomore Olivia de Cuba (Bilthoven, Netherlands) carded the low round for Wellesley with an 83. First year Devyani Kalra (Short Hills, N.J.) checked in with an 89, while sophomore Naomi Kim (Troy, Mich.), first year Abby Zong (Mercer Island, Wash.) and junior Annika Vandayar (Garnet Valley, Pa.) shot rounds of 91, 92, and 93, respectively.

Play at the Ann S. Batchelder Invitational continues tomorrow, Sunday, September 17, with a shotgun start at 9:00 AM.
