MacVicar Leads Wellesley Golf on Day One of Centre Invitational

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. – Wellesley College golf sophomore Ryan MacVicar (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) shot an opening round 83 and is currently tied for third place on the individual leaderboard at the Jim English/Centre College Invitational at the par-70, 5,891-yard Saddlebrook Course near Tampa, Florida. 

The Blue are in fourth place in the overall team standings thanks to a first round total of 360. Wellesley trails first place Centre (336), second place Eckerd (347), and third place Denison (354) heading into day two. Allegheny (384) and Carroll (Wis.) (400) round out the field of six teams.

Wellesley senior Maya Muldowney (Waunakee, Wis.) is in 15th thanks to an opening round 91. First year Rosey Li (Princeton, N.J.) was one shot back with a 92, while junior Annika Vandayar (Garnet Valley, Pa.) and sophomore Isabelle Chun (Palo Alto, Calif.) rounded out the team score with cards of 94 and 95.

Wellesley first year Devyani Kalra (Short Hills, N.J.) posted the top mark among four Wellesley players competing as individuals at the tournament. Kalra shot an opening round 92 to tie with Li in 16th place. Sophomore Olivia de Cuba (Bilthoven, Netherlands) was one shot back of Kalra and Li with a 93. Also in action, for Wellesley, Naomi Kim (Troy, Mich.) and Abby Zong (Mercer Island, Wash.) finished with scores of 103 and 104, respectively.

Action continues tomorrow, March 24, with final round play beginning at 9:00 AM.
