Li Leads Wellesley Golf On Opening Day of Liberty League Championship

CANTON, N.Y. -- First year Rosey Li (Princeton, N.J.) fired a five-over par round of 77 to help Wellesley College golf hold on to third place in the team standings following day one of the 2018 Liberty League Championships at the Par 72, 5,830 yard Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course.

New York University (297) leads the field, followed by Ithaca College (308) and Wellesley (317). The Blue have a one stroke lead on fourth place Vassar (318), while Union College (333) is in fifth and Mount Holyoke (339) is in sixth. Tournament host St. Lawrence University (354) and William Smith College (362) round out the field. Ithaca College senior Indiana Jones (Alton Bay, N.H.) is atop the leaderboard thanks to a one-under round of 71. Jones was the only golfer in the field to finish under par during the opening round. 

Li is in eighth place with a one stroke lead over teammate Ryan MacVicar (Tuscaloosa, Ala.). MacVicar is currently tied for ninth thanks to a round of 78, while MacVicar's sophomore classmate Isabelle Chun (Palo Alto, Calif.) is currently tied for 16th with Blue junior Annika Vandayar (Garnet Valley, Pa.) after the duo carded matching rounds of 81. Senior Maya Muldowney (Waunakee, Wis.) added an opening round 87 and is in 27th place. 

Action from the 2018 Liberty League Championships continues tomorrow at 9:00 AM, with the top-ten finishers earning All-Conference honors. Live stats for the tournament are available at results.golfstat.com.
