Wellesley Golf Leads After Opening Round Play at Ann S. Batchelder Invitational

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College golf first year Ella Warburg (Mercer Island, Wash.) is atop the leaderboard and the host Blue lead the team standings following opening round play in the 2018 Ann S. Batchelder Invitational at the par-72, 5,860-yard Nehoiden Golf Course.

Warburg fired an opening round 75 in her collegiate debut and is currently tied with Amherst first year India Gaume and Middlebury junior Chloe Levins (Rutland, Vt.) in the race for individual medalist honors. The Blue (306) lead the team standings by five strokes ahead of second place Amherst (311). Vassar (328) is currently in third, followed by Mount Holyoke (333), Middlebury (337) and Trinity (Conn.) (464). Wellesley's team round of 306 was the best round for the Blue in tournament history.

Wellesley junior Ryan MacVicar (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) and first year Hannah Blonder (Westwood, Mass.) are just one stroke off the lead (76), as they are both in a tie for fourth with 2016 Batchelder individual medalist Morgan Yurosek of Amherst. The 76 matches MacVicar's collegiate low and is the third time the Wellesley junior has shot 76 at Nehoiden.

Blue first year Chansie Yang (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) is also in the top-ten following an opening round 79 in her collegiate debut, while classmate Audrey Lin (Fremont, Calif.) is tied for 14th after posting an 81 in her first round for the Blue.

Junior Olivia de Cuba (Bilthoven, Netherlands) matched Lin with a first round 81 to lead Wellesley's team of five individual golfers. First year Aine Kenwood (Potomac, Md.) added a round of 83 (20th), while junior Isabelle Chun (Palo Alto, Calif.) is one stroke back (T-21st) and first year Carmen Chan (Birmingham, Mich.) fired an 89 (T-29th). Junior Naomi Kim (Troy, Mich.) rounded out the field for the Blue in 31st with a 90.

Final round play begins with a shotgun start tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM. The Blue will be seeking their first title in the 11-year history of the Ann S. Batchelder Invitational.
