Wellesley Golf Takes Second Place at Ann S. Batchelder Invitational

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College golf junior Ryan MacVicar (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) and first year Ella Warburg (Mercer Island, Wash.) each finished in the top-five to lead the Blue to runner-up honors at the 2018 Ann S. Batchelder Invitational, held this weekend at Wellesley's par-72, 5,860-yard Nehoiden Golf Course.

Amherst College (311-300-611) claimed the team title for the third consecutive year, overcoming a five-stroke deficit on Saturday to run away from the field in the final round. The Mammoths took the title by 14 strokes over second place Wellesley (306-319-625), aided by play of individual medalist Morgan Yurosek, who fired a weekend-best round of 70 on Sunday. Yurosek (76-70-146) claimed individual medalist honors at the Ann S. Batchelder Invitational for the second time in her career (2016). 

Vassar (325-330-655) came in third, followed by Middlebury (337-338-675) in fourth and Mount Holyoke in fifth (333-348-681). Trinity (Conn.) (464-413-877) rounded out the field at this year's tournament.

MacVicar (76-76-152) matched her career-low opening round score on Sunday to lead the Blue and finish in a tie for third place. Warburg, who came into Sunday's final round tied for the lead, finished in fifth in her first collegiate event (75-78-153). Macvicar and Warburg tied for the tournament lead in pars (25).

First year Hannah Blonder (Westwood, Mass.) gave Wellesley three golfers in the top-ten, finishing in 7th (76-82-158), while classmates Chansie Yang (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) and Audrey Lin (Fremont, Calif.) rounded out Wellesley's team score in a tie for 15th. Yang (79-85-164) finished two strokes back of Lin (81-83-164) on Sunday.

Juniors Olivia de Cuba (Bilthoven, Netherlands) and Isabelle Chun (Palo Alto, Calif.) led the second flight of Wellesley golfers, finishing in a tie for 19th. de Cuba (81-88-169) finished three strokes back of Chun (84-85-169) on Sunday. First year Aine Kenwood (Potomac, Md.) was tied for 21st (83-88-171), classmate Carmen Chan (Birmingham, Mich.) finished in a tie for 26th (89-86-175) and junior Naomi Kim (Troy, Mich.) was tied for 30th (90-91-181).

Wellesley golf will continue the season next weekend at the Mount Holyoke Invitational at the The Orchards in South Hadley, Mass.
