Wellesley Golf Drops 15 Strokes on Sunday To Seize 4th Place at MHC Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College golf dropped 15 strokes on Sunday to finish in fourth place at the 2018 Mount Holyoke College Invitational at the par-72, 6,575 yard Orchards Golf Club. 

The Blue opened the day five strokes back of Middlebury, but totaled a team mark of 312 to jump past the Panthers and finish fourth (327-312-639). Wellesley was just 11 strokes back of third place NYU (317-311-628). Amherst (313-306-619) claimed the team title with rival Williams finishing in second despite matching the Mammoths for best team round on Sunday (316-306-622).

First years Audrey Lin (Fremont, Calif.) and Ella Warburg (Mercer Island, Wash.) posted matching rounds of 77 to lead the Blue on Sunday. Lin dropped four strokes from her round on Saturday to finish as Wellesley's top performer in a tie for 14th (81-77-158). Warburg trimmed six strokes from her opening round to finish in a tie for 18th (83-77-160). 

Junior Ryan MacVicar (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) was the third Wellesley player to card a score in the 70's, shooting a final round 78 to finish in a tie for 23rd (84-78-162). After leading the Blue on Saturday, first year Chansie Yang (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) added another solid round on Sunday. Yang shot an 80 to finish in a tie for 16th (79-80-159). First year Hannah Blonder (Westwood, Mass.) saw the biggest improvement for the Blue on day two, shooting a final round 81 to finish in a tie for 49th (93-81-174). Blonder dropped 12 strokes on moving day.

the Blue will now shift their focus to the Williams Invitational next weekend at Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown, Mass.
