Wellesley Golf Wins Bowdoin's State of Maine Invitational; Hou Sets Course Record in Collegiate Debut

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Wellesley College golf first year Emily Hou (San Ramon, Calif.) set a new women's course record of 70 at the Par-73, 5,702 yard Brunswick Golf Club to lead the Blue to the team title on Sunday at Bowdoin's State of Maine Invitational.

Hou was the only player in the field to finish under par, going 3-under in her collegiate debut. Hou finished four strokes ahead of runner-up Shivani Schmulen (Plano, Texas) of Bowdoin with a round that included three birdies and an eagle on the par-5 16th hole. 

Hou, sophomore Elizabeth Kim (Riverside, Calif.), first year Ashley Cong (Troy, Mich.), senior Kate MacVicar (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) and sophomore Norah Catlin (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) combined to shoot 314 to win the tournament for the Wellesley "Blue" team. Kim carded a 79, Cong shot an 82, Catlin fired an 83 and Kate MacVicar finished with an 84. 

Wellesley finished first and second in the overall team standings as the Wellesley "White" team of junior Emma Lim (Skillman, N.J.), junior Marilyn Fang (Beijing, China), senior Caroline MacVicar (Tuscaloosa, Ala.), sophomore Kate Kramer (Columbus, Ohio) and first year Lucia Chen (Horseheads, N.Y.) was second with a score of 316. Lim finished with a 78, Fang and Caroline MacVicar eached recorded rounds of 79 and Kramer had a round of 80. Chen was one stroke back with a round of 81. 

Wellesley returns to action next weekend at the Wesleyan (CT) Invitational and Lyman Orchards in Middlefield, Conn.
