Blue Lacrosse Runs ‘Yards for Yeardley’ to End Relationship Violence

WELLESLEY, Mass. — While completing offseason training over winter break, the Wellesley College lacrosse program also participated in another program, running 'Yards for Yeardley' in support of The One Love Foundation to raise awareness of relationship violence.

The Wellesley lacrosse team signed up to meet the national goal of running one million "Yards for Yeardley' in one month. The Blue met that goal, and more, running 1,263,932 yards as a team to show their support.

While raising awareness of relationship violence, The One Love Foundation also celebrates the life of Yeardley Love, a lacrosse student-athlete at UVA who was beaten to death by her ex-boyfriend just weeks before graduation in the spring of her senior year. In association with the The One Love Foundation, the 'Yards for Yeardley' program was designed by women's lacrosse players at both the University of Virginia (UVA), Yeardley's alma mater, and nearby Boston College.

This spring will mark the five year anniversary of Yeardley's death and running Yards for Yeardley serves as a way for teams from across the country to show support for the One Love Foundation and in remembrance of Yeardley.

Wellesley Lacrosse will open the 2015 season on Saturday at 12:00 PM with a game at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine.
