Gallison Scores First Career Goal in 18-3 Setback Against Stevens

HOBOKEN, N.J. -- First year Kat Gallison (Portsmouth, R.I.) scored her first career goal for Wellesley College lacrosse in a 18-3 setback in non-conference action against Stevens on Saturday afternoon at the Debaun Athletic Complex. Stevens improves to 4-2 in their season, while Wellesley falls to 0-4.

Junior Mackenzie Metzler (Long Valley, N.J.) put away four goals and grabbed two draw controls to spark the Stevens offense. Sophomore Kyra Bednarski (Syracuse, N.Y.) and senior Julianna Ricci (Millersville, Md.) both recorded hat tricks, while Bednarski added four assists. Senior Cami Santor (Glastonbury, Conn.) tallied two goals and a game-high six assists with sophomores Emily Shanklin (Berkley, Mich.) and Hannah Condren (Walkersville, Md.) chipping in with two goals each.

Junior Dacia Persky (Las Vegas, Nev.) led the Blue with a goal, an assist, and scooped up a ground ball. Classmate Olivia Strobl (Stafford, Va.) tallied her fourth goal of the season and grabbed a draw control.

Stevens took control early when Metzler scored her first at 29:19 to spark the nine goal run to start the game. The Blue answered when Gallison notched her first career goal at 18:57 to make the score 9-1 in favor of the hosts. Stevens fired back at 13:29 when Shanklin scored a man-up goal that started a five-goal run to increase their lead 14-1 heading into the halftime break.  

Persky scored her first of the game to open the second half with a free-position goal at 20:45 to cut the deficit 14-2. Stevens answered with four more goals to secure their 18-2 lead, until Persky found Strobl to score her first of the game with one second left on the clock, to make the final score 18-3. Stevens held the advantage in draw controls (13-8), shots (28-13), and ground balls (13-4).

Junior Chloe Tucker (San Ramon, Calif.) recorded seven saves for the Blue and is now 0-4 on the season. Stevens senior goalkeeper Stephanie Schnelzer (Carmel, Ind.) made two saves in her 30 minutes of action to earn the win and improve to 4-2 on her season. First years Peyton Taylor (Phillipsburg, N.J.) and Olivia Demetres (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) split time in the cage in the second half for Stevens.

Wellesley returns home on Wednesday, March 21, as they host Framingham State at 4:00 PM. Stevens will play again on Saturday, March 24, when they travel to Nazareth College for a 1:00 PM game.
