No. 19 Colby Powers Past Wellesley Lacrosse 17-0

WELLESLEY, Mass.-- Wellesley College lacrosse dropped a 17-0 setback on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action against No. 19 Colby at the Wellesley Fields Complex. Wellesley falls to 0-7 on their season while Colby improves to 4-3 on the year.

Seniors Sasha Fritts (Darien, Conn) and Kendall Smith (Glen Ridge, N.J.), juniors Bridget Horwood (Scarsdale, N.Y.) and Banks Dotson (Houston, Texas) all recorded hat tricks to lead the offense for the Mules. Sophomore Grace Crowell (Medfield, Mass.), first year Lyla Jones (McLean, Va.), sophomore Emma Banks (North Haven, Conn.), junior Kate Burkett (Larchmont, N.Y.), and first year Gwen Geisler (West Hartford, Conn.) all added a goal to round out scoring for Colby.

On the defensive end, Wellesley sophomore Maya Sullivan (Cumberland, R.I.) caused two turnovers and classmate Hannah Maisano (Gambrills, Md.) scooped up three ground balls.

Fritts scored the first of the game for Colby at 29:25, sparkinga 12-goal run that gave the Mules a 12-0 lead heading into halftime. Wellesley fired two shots from junior Dacia Persky (Las Vegas, Nev.) at 26:07 and first year Kat Gallison (Portsmouth, R.I.) at 15:12, but the Colby defense shut them down.

Horwood scored the first three goals of the second half, starting at 28:28 to extend the Colby lead to 15-0. Dotson scored the last two goals of the game at 11:29 and 8:28 to secure the 17-0 win for the Mules. Colby held the advantage in shots, 38-8, draw controls, 11-8, and ground balls 27-10.

Wellesley junior Chloe Tucker (San Ramon, Calif.) made 12 saves in the contest and is now 0-7 on the season. All three Colby goalkeepers saw time today in between the pipes for Colby. First year Hannah Marino (Peabody, Mass.) had two saves in her 15:57 minutes of play and senior Sam Burch (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) saw 24:58 minutes of action. Junior Izzy Scribano (Darien, Conn.) had one save in her 19:05 minutes of play and earned the win to improve to 3-3 on her season.

Wellesley will travel to Lynchburg (Va.) on Wednesday, March 28, with the draw set for 2:30 PM. Colby will play again on Tuesday, March 27 at 11:00 AM when they travel to Clearwater, Fla. to take on Union (N.Y.).
