Wellesley Lacrosse Suffers 16-8 Setback at Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va.-- Wellesley College lacrosse drops a 16-8 non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon against Lynchburg at Shellenberger Field. Wellesley falls to 0-8 overall, while Lynchburg improves to 3-5 on the season.

Lynchburg sophomore Kelsi Trevisan (West Chester, Pa.) paced the Hornets with five goals and two assists. Junior Hannah Creasey (Virginia Beach, Va.) recorded a hat trick and grabbed a draw control. Junior Alicia Sandoval (Montclair, Va.) and sophomore Carly Sandler (Kennebunk, Maine) both added a pair of goals. Senior Dorrie MacGregor (Centreville, Md.) was a force for the Hornets by tallying two goals, two assists, and grabbing four draw controls. Rounding out scoring for Lynchburg, were senior Sidney Gleason (Dumfries, Va.) and junior Madi Rupert, both adding a goal each.

Wellesley had a balanced scoring effort led by junior Dacia Persky (Las Vegas, Nev.) with two goals and two assists. Senior Mayu Kikuchi (Villanova, Pa.), first year Kat Gallison (Portsmouth, R.I.), classmate Mikaela Smith (Concord, Mass.), and junior Ellie Chalphin (Philadelphia, Pa.), Olivia Strobl (Stafford, Va.), Mariana Hernandez (Orlando, Fla.) all put away a goal each in the setback. Senior Jenna Mulrenan (Glen Ridge, N.J.) caused three turnovers, scooped up four ground balls, and grabbed three draw controls for the Blue.

Creasey scored the first goal of the game for the Hornets at 29:02 that sparked a seven goal run from six different goal scorers. Wellesley cut the run short as they scored back-to-back goals at 11:55 and 9:46. Persky netted a free-position goal to make the score 7-1, followed by Strobl who connected on a pass from Persky to put away her eight of the season to cut the deficit 7-2. Kikuchi buried her second of the season at 8:31 but it would be the final goal of the half for the Blue as Lynchburg went on to take a 14-3 lead heading into halftime.

Wellesley outscored the hosts 5-2 in the second half, but come up short in the end. Chalpin sparked a four goal run for the Blue to end the game with the 16-8 deficit. Lynchburg held the advantage in draw controls, 14-11, ground balls, 19-10, and shots 35-13.

Wellesley junior goalkeeper Chloe Tucker (San Ramon, Calif.) recorded a career-high 13 saves in the contest as she drops to 0-8 on the season. Lynchburg's senior goalkeeper Chelsea Shultis (Hurley, N.Y.) made two saves in her 45:49 minutes of play and also earned the win, improving to 3-5 on the season. Junior Lauren Bodamer (La Plata, Md.) saw 14:11 minutes of action in the cage to close out the game for the Hornets.

Lynchburg will travel to Roanoke on Friday, March 30 at 4:00 PM. Wellesley returns home on Saturday, March 31 at 12:00 PM to jump back into conference play when they host Smith.
