Rhodes Downs Wellesley Lacrosse in Non-Conference Match-Up, 19-8

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Wellesley College lacrosse dropped a non-conference match-up to Rhodes College by a final score of 19-8 on Tuesday afternoon as part of the team's spring break trip.

With the win, Rhodes' win streak reaches six games, while the Lynx improve to 8-3 overall on the season. The Blue drop their second straight match to fall to 3-4 on the year.

The Lynx were passed offensively by junior Madison Rubino (Baltimore, Md.) who scored five goals and tallied one assist, while first years Payton Bennett (Windermere, Fla.) and Baylee Baker (Bradenton, Fla.) both put home four goals, with the latter scoring her 50th goal of the young season. Junior Lauren Lazure earned the win in net, improving her record to 8-3 by making six saves.

Senior Dacia Persky (Las Vegas, Nev.) scored two goals for the Blue, while junior Marika Dy (San Mateo, Calif.), senior Lena Engbreston (Beaverton, Ore.), sophomore Kat Gallison (Portsmouth, R.I.), senior Ellie Chalphin (Philadelphia, Pa.), sophomore Louise Conaty (Wilmington, Del.) and first year Eleanor Mallett (Berwick, Me.) all scored a goal for Wellesley. First year Lorna Li (Taunton, Mass.) got the start in net, making nine saves in the first half, but suffered the loss to go to 2-2 on the season.

Bennett opened the scoring just 23 seconds into the first half and Rhodes never looked back, despite Persky's goal that evened it out at 1-1. The Lynx dominated the rest of the first half as they pushed their lead to 12-4 at the break. Rubino scored three of her five goals in the first 30 minutes.

In the second half, Wellesley was able to convert on two free position shots and outshoot the Lynx, 10-to-9, but it was not enough to overcome the offensive pressure as Rhodes still outscored the Blue 7-to-4 in the final frame. Four different members of the Blue got on the board after the break, including Dy's first career goal.

Up next,  the Blue will travel to Smith College on the 30th to take on the Pioneers in a New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference match-up scheduled to start at 12:00PM. Rhodes hosts Centre College in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) contest on March 30th at 12:00PM.
