Fast Start Sends Framingham State Past Wellesley Lacrosse, 15-4

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Framingham State University scored 14 unanswered goals to start the game, as the Rams cruised to a 15-4 victory over Wellesley College lacrosse in non-conference play on Monday night at Maple Street Field. 

Framingham State picked up the team's second straight win to improve to 7-3 overall. The Blue are now 4-5 on the season and 3-4 in non-conference action. 

Sophomore Alissa Marino (Trumbull, Conn.) added four goals and an assist, while junior Morgan Begley (Belchertown, Mass.) scored three goals and added a pair of assists to lead the Rams. Junior Grace Gamache (Dartmouth, Mass.) added two goals and four assists, while sophomore Hanna McMahon (Watertown, Mass.) also finished with four points, scoring three times with one assist. First year Hailey Davis (Windham, N.H.) totaled a game-high four ground balls.

Senior Dacia Persky (Las Vegas, Nev.) and sophomore Kat Gallison (Portsmouth, R.I.) each recorded a goal and an assist for the Blue, with Gallison also adding three draw controls. Senior Ellie Chalphin (Philadelphia, Pa.) and first year Eleanor Mallett (Berwick, Maine) also scored for the Blue. First year Lorna Li (Taunton, Mass.) got the start in goal, making five saves in the first half, but dropped to 3-3 on the year.

The Rams took a 12-0 lead into halftime, outshooting the Blue 21-9 in the opening half. Gamache set-up four first half goals, while McMahon and Begley each netted hat tricks. Framingham State took a 4-0 lead in the first five minutes of the contest, stretching their advantage to 9-0 when McMahon scored her second at 16:48. McMahon then closed out the first half with a hat trick goal at 1:00.

Marino scored the first two goals of the second, giving Framingham State a 14-0 lead, before Persky got the Blue on the board at 19:09 of the second. Senior Mariana Hernandez (Orlando, Fla.) set-up Gallison at 10:07, and Chalphin scored a third straight Blue goal at 7:59, but the Rams broke the run with a goal at 5:01. Mallett closed out the scoring for the Blue, converting on an assist from Gallison at 3:54.

The Rams finished with a 26-14 edge in shots. Framingham State senior Indigo Fox Tree-McGrath (Bedford, Mass.) earned the win for the Rams making three saves. The Rams had a 13-9 advantage in draw controls and a 25-15 edge in ground balls.

The Blue will look to bounce back when they travel to Southern Maine on Wednesday evening at 6:00 PM. Framingham State will also play Wednesday night when they travel to Smith for a 7:00 PM contest.
