Blue Soccer Falls to Babson, 1-0 in 2OT

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College Soccer fell to visiting Babson College, 1-0 in double overtime, on Tuesday afternoon, as a Wellesley own goal helped the Beavers to down the Blue with just 4:49 remaining in the contest. Wellesley moves to 7-4-2 overall and 1-2-0 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.

Despite finishing with an 11-5 advantage in shots, the Blue were unable to find the back of the net for the third straight contest. Babson senior Malina Kapotsis made six saves for the Beavers, who now stand at 9-1-2 overall and in first place in the NEWMAC standings at 4-0-1 in conference.

Claire Cerda and Kat Goldsmith combined to make a pair of saves in the Wellesley net. Mary Lou Ferguson finished with a team-high two shots on goal for the Blue.

With the clock winding down in the second extra session, Babson senior Rachael Kantor got free down the left side of the field. In alone on goal after slipping past the Wellesley defense, Kantor hit a strike to the left of Goldsmith that the Blue backline franticly chased down. However, a sliding attempt to stop the ball on the goaline saw it deflect into the Wellesley net to give the Beavers the 1-0 victory.

Wellesley will now look to Saturday and a matchup at Mount Holyoke. Babson will also be on the road at the Coast Guard Academy. Both matches will start at 12 noon.
