NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Wellesley College soccer played to a 2-2 tie with rival Smith College in New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

The tie is the first of the season for the Blue, who now hold an 6-8-1 overall record and 3-4-1 mark in NEWMAC matches. Smith is now 7-5-5 on the season and 1-4-3 in conference play. Wellesley is currently in possession of the seventh spot in the NEWMAC standings with a pair of matches to play.

Seniors Kyla Petrie (Denton, Texas) and Maddie Carlborg (Burbank, Calif.) each scored for the Blue. Petrie knocked home the first of the game, and her third of the season, 20:53 into the first half, ringing the ball off the crossbar and into the Smith net to make the score 1-0. Petrie's goal held up until halftime, as the Blue took a 1-0 lead into the break.

Smith found the equalizer in the second half, scoring at 68:08 when junior Jordan Isaacs (Weston, Conn.) scored her seventh goal of the season on an unassisted effort. However, the Pioneers only had the lead for a matter of minutes before Carlborg took it back for the Blue, scoring her team-leading fifth goal of the year at 70:11. Junior Shawna Dunham (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) set-up Carlborg on the play, as the Blue took advantage of a restart following a Smith foul.

Smith senior Emily Smith (Winchester, Mass.) knotted the score in the 81st minute, collecting a loose ball in front to score her team-leading ninth goal of the season. Each team got a chance to close regulation but the game went into extra time still tied at 2-all. The Blue unleashed five shots in the opening overtime period but failed to score. Smith countered with six in the second but also couldn't find the back of the net, as the game end in the 2-2 draw. Wellesley finished the contest with a 23-17 advantage in shots, while both teams earned six corners.

Wellesley first year goalkeeper Olivia Reckley (Grosse Ile, Mich.) made seven saves in a complete game effort. In the Smith goal, senior Alanna Lynch (Trumbull, Conn.) turned back 10 Wellesley shots on goal.

Both teams will continue NEWMAC play on Tuesday, October 25. Wellelsey will travel to Coast Guard for a 7:00 PM start and Smith will host Mount Holyoke at 3:30 PM.
