Reckley, Wellesley Soccer Shut Out Clark 2-0 In NEWMAC Action

WORCESTER, Mass. -- Sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Reckley (Grosse Ile, Mich.) backstopped the Blue, making five saves to help Wellesley College soccer to a 2-0 shutout of Clark University in New England Men's and Women's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Tuesday night at Granger Field.

The Blue improve to 5-8-2 overall, while picking-up three points and moving to 4-4-0 in the NEWMAC standings. Clark drops to 6-6-2 overall and 1-4-2 in NEWMAC play.

Sophomore Deyanira Ibarra (Los Olivos, Calif.) scored her third goal of the season at 6:43 to put Wellesley on the board, 1-0. Ibarra's goal would hold up as her second game-winner of the year, but not before the Blue added another in the second half.  Junior Gabriela Portilla (West Windsor, N.J.) scored her second goal of the season, unassisted, in the 73rd minute to secure Wellesley's lead 2-0.

Clark held the advantage in shots 11-6 as well as corner kicks 7-2, but were unable to get a shot past Reckley. First year Taylor Barbieri (Glastonbury, Conn.) led the Cougars with three shots in the contest, while sophomore goalkeeper Julianna Christy (Plainville, Conn.) recorded three saves in tonight's contest.

The Blue will play again on Saturday, October 21, at 11:00 AM when they travel to WPI to continue NEWMAC competition. Clark will return to action on Friday night, October 20, in a NEWMAC match as they host Coast Guard at 7:00 PM.
