Wellesley Soccer Blanks Endicott 1-0 in Non-Conference Play

BEVERLY, Mass. -- Junior goalkeeper Olivia Reckley (Grosse Ile, Mich.) recorded a season-high eight saves to secure a 1-0 victory for Wellesley College soccer in a non-conference game against Endicott College on Tuesday night at Hempstead Stadium.

Wellesley junior Carley Phillips (Waterford, Conn.) scored the lone goal for the Blue in the 47th minute as she took advantage of a failed clear by Endicott.

Endicott put the pressure on early in the first half as they outshot the Blue 7-1 and had six corner kicks. Reckley made four saves in the half, including a diving save to the left post on a shot by Endicott senior Mary Verneris (Hamden, Conn.) in the 35th minute to maintain the 0-0 score heading into halftime.

Wellesley started the second half with a corner kick by junior Emily Tran (Vienna, Va.) at 46:00. Seconds later, Phillips put away her first of the season to give Wellesley the 1-0 lead. Reckley kept the Blue in it for the remainder of the half stopping four more chances from Endicott. Despite the setback, Endicott held the advantage in shots, 18-3, and corner kicks, 10-3.

Gulls junior goalkeeper Kayla Wentworth (Taunton, Mass.) recorded one save and is now 1-2-2 on the season. Reckley recorded her 13th career shutout to improve to 3-2-0 in 2018. 

Wellesley will open up New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday, September 15 at Smith with a 12:00 PM kickoff. Endicott will also play on Saturday at 11:00 AM when they travel to Western New England.
