Zhou Nets Game Winner To Lead Blue Soccer Past Curry, 4-2

MILTON, Mass. -- Sophomore Liz Zhou (McLean, Va.) scored the game winning goal in the second half, as Wellesley College soccer rolled to a 4-2 non-conference victory over Curry College on Saturday afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field.

Wellesley, who also got goals from seniors Kendall You Mak (San Francisco, Calif.) and Hannah Knoll (Boise, Idaho), and first year Eliza Roy (Camden, Maine), is now 2-1-0 overall. Curry drops to 1-3-0 following Saturday's contest.

First year Thea Feldgoise (Brookline, Mass.) set-up You Mak to help the Blue breakthrough with just under ten minutes remaining in the first half. Wellesley outshot the hosts 16-7 in the first 45 minutes but only took a 1-0 lead into the break.

The Blue continued to hold a one-goal edge until the 69th minute when Roy netted her second of the season to give Wellesley a 2-0 advantage. The advantage would grow to 4-0 over the next eight minutes of play, as Zhou netted her first of the season with an unassisted effort at 71:48. Zhou then picked up an assist on the fourth goal as Knoll finished on a Gabriella Nicolosi (New York, New York) corner kick at 76:07.

Curry got two goals back in the final ten minutes of play but never threatened. Junior Tayla Randall (Walpole, Mass.) scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season at 81:41 and McKenna Reid (Irvine, Calif.) netted the first of her career at 86:53 but Wellesley went on to take the 4-2 final.

Blue senior Olivia Reckley (Grosse Ile, Mich.) made five saves to pick-up her second victory of the year (2-1-0). Curry first year Oliver Hutchinson (Scituate, Mass.) made seven saves in the setback. Wellesley finished with a 25-11 advantage in shots.

Wellesley returns home to host Endicott in the team's next game on Tuesday, September 10, at 4:00 PM. Curry will travel to Regis (Mass.) for a 7:30 PM start on Wednesday, September 11.
