Blue Soccer Drops Non-Conference Tilt to Roger Williams, 4-0

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Roger Williams University senior Gabbi Rozumek (Woodstock, Vt.) scored a pair of goals to lead the visiting Hawks to a 4-0 non-conference victory over Wellesley College soccer on Tuesday afternoon at the Wellesley Field Complex.

Roger Williams, who also got a goal and an assist from senior Morgan Snow (Rowley, Mass.), improves to 3-4-0 overall and 2-0-0 on the road in 2019. The Blue are now 3-3-0 on the season.

Rozumek scored the first goal of the game just 3:08 into the contest when she skirted by the Blue backline and slotted the ball low past Wellesley starter Olivia Reckley (Grosse Ile, Mich.). Reckley made one stop through the opening 27:13 before giving way to first year Kendall Lincoln (San Diego, Calif.) following the third RWU goal. Lincoln made four stops in relief.

The Hawks doubled the lead at 14:53, scoring on a perfectly executed set piece from the top of the Blue penalty area. Snow played the ball out wide right to Sarina Olson (Bristol, R.I.) who immediately crossed the ball to Arianna Delli Carpini (Bedford HIlls, N.Y.) for the finish at the far post. Snow picked-up her own goal to make the score 3-0 at 23:32, curving the ball directly into the Wellesley net on a corner kick.

Rozumek added the fourth RWU goal at 54:54 of the second, powering home a shot from the right side of the penalty are after a long ball from senior Sara Nerwinski (Lawrenceville, N.J.) found a way over the top of the Wellesley backline.

The Hawks finished the contest with a slight 15-14 edge in shots but had a 10-6 advantage in shots on target. First year Thea Feldgoise (Brookline, Mass.) had a team-high five shots for the Blue. RWU sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Strassburg (Longmeadow, Mass.) made six saves to improve to 2-3-0, while Reckley (3-3-0) was charged with the loss for Wellesley.

Both teams open conference play on Saturday, September 21. The Blue will host Seven Sisters rival Smith College in New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at 1:00 PM. Roger Williams will travel to the University of New England for a Commonwealth Coast Conference matinee at 12:00 PM.
