Wellesley Soccer Rallies from Two-Goal Deficit to Down Mount Holyoke, 4-2

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College soccer scored four unanswered goals to rally from a 2-0 deficit and defeat Mount Holyoke College, 4-2, in New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday at the Wellesley Fields Complex.

Wellesley improves to 1-1-0 in the NEWMAC, snapping a three-game skid to improve to 4-5-0 overall. Mount Holyoke is now 2-6-1 (0-1-0 NEWMAC) overall.

Mount Holyoke scored twice in the game's opening minute to jump to a 2-0 lead. Senior Hannah Finn-Erb (Northampton, Mass.) set-up the first goal of the game just 22 seconds after the opening kick-off, crossing it into space to senior  Minerva Veeser-Bobea (Arlington, Mass.) for a one-timer at the top of the area. Just 22 seconds later, Finn-Erb again played a ball in front. Blue goalkeeper Olivia Reckley (Grosse Ile, Mich.) came out to meet the play but Mount Holyoke senior Lilydahn Stewart (Etna, N.H.) escaped from Reckley and the Blue defense for a tap-in goal.

Trailing 2-0, the Blue held off another push from the Lyons before working back into the game. First year Thea Feldgoise (Brookline, Mass.) made the score 2-1 at 25:55 when she capitalized on a Mount Holyoke turnover that sent her in on goal one-on-one. Feldgoise then set up the equalizer 1:29 before the half when she found classmate Eliza Roy (Camden, Maine) on a corner kick to make the score 2-2. The goal was Roy's fourth of the season.

The contest remained tied, 2-2, until the 78th minute, when Blue sophomore Liz Zhou (McLean, Va.) netted the game-winner on a Wellesley corner, redirecting the service from Feldgoise into the Mount Holyoke net. Senior Julia Jung (Oakland, Calif.) would later put the game out of reach at 85:58, scoring her first of the year when she beat the Lyon backline and grooved the ball past Mount Holyoke starter Maria-Lucia Delgado (Bronx, N.Y.).

Reckley made four saves in the Blue net to earn the win (4-5-0). Delgado turned back eight Wellesley shots and is now 1-4-1 on the year. Wellesley finished the game with a 23-9 edge in shots, outshooting the Lyons in both halves.

The Blue will travel to Coast Guard next Saturday, October 5, for a 3:00 PM NEWMAC contest. Mount Holyoke will travel to RPI in non-conference action on Wednesday, October 2, at 7:30 PM.
