Emerson Strikes Late to Down Wellesley Soccer, 1-0

BOSTON, Mass. --  Emerson College senior Veronica Alberts (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) scored the game's only goal in the 71st minute to send the host Lions to a 1-0 victory over Wellesley College soccer in New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Rotch Field.

The victory was the fourth straight for the Lions, who move to 10-4-0 overall and 5-1-0 in NEWMAC play. Wellesley drops to 4-10-0 overall and 1-6-0 in conference.

Emerson finished the contest with a 23-6 advantage in shots, but it took the hosts over 70 minutes to breakthrough for the go-ahead goal. The Blue got a pair of shots away in the 63rd and 65th minutes but came-up empty before Alberts and Emerson countered just under six minutes later. Sophomore Grace Cosgrove (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) picked-up the assist on the play, finding Alberts for her second of the season.

Sophomore Megan Rose (Danville, CA) made two stops to earn the shutout for the Lions. First year Kendall Lincoln (San Diego, Calif. ) went the distance in goal for the Blue, making six saves. Rose is now 9-4 overall, while Lincoln is 0-1. First year Thea Feldgoise (Brookline, Mass.) and senior Kendall You Mak (San Francisco, Calif.) each had two shots to lead the Blue.

Both teams continue the conference season on Tuesday, October 22. Wellesley will travel to Clark for a 7:00 PM start and Emerson will play at Coast Guard at 4:00 PM.
