Late Goal by Sangston Propels Wellesley Soccer Past Framingham St., 1-0

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. - Junior Paige Sangston (Greenwich, Conn.) scored late in the second half to push Wellesley College soccer past host Framingham State, 1-0, in non-conference play on Wednesday afternoon at the Maple Street Field.

Sangston connected on her second goal of the season and first year Ella Hong (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) had her first career assist for Wellesley (4-2-0 Overall, 0-1-0 NEWMAC). Sophomore goalkeeper Jetta Oskirko (Lancaster, Mass.) registered a career high 17 saves for Framingham State (0-7 Overall, 0-1 MASCAC) in the loss.

The Blue outshot the Rams 27-4, putting 18 shots on goal. Sangston ended the game with five total shots on goal, while sophomore Marleigh Ausbrooks (Washington, D.C.) had four of her own. Junior Willa McGough (Plainfield, N.H.) put two shots on goal in the first 11 mintutes, and Sangston also placed a pair of shots on goal early, but Oskirko stood tall through a scoreless first half.

Senior Thea Feldgoise (Brookline, Mass.) nearly broke the scoreless affair with a header in the 56th minute but the ball narrowly deflected off the post. In the 77th minute, Sangston found the back of the net for the Blue, finishing into an open net on a pass by Hong to give Wellesley the go-ahead goal.

First year Riley McNair (Cupertino, Calif.) played all 90 minutes to earn her first career shutout for Wellesley. McNair made three saves to improve to 2-1 overall.
