Wellesley Squash Takes 7-2 Final Over Tufts

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- First years Sarah Zhang and Phyllis Lin got victories at the number one and two positions as Wellesley College squash defeated Tufts University, 7-2, on Tuesday evening at MIT. 

Zhang defeated Tufts' Claudia Udolf in three straight games, earning victories of 11-9, 11-7 and 11-6 to take the match at number one.

Lin then defeated Paige Dahlman in a had-fought five games. Lin dropped the first set by a 7-11 margin before rallying to take 11-8 wins in the next two games. She then dropped the fourth, 5-11, before taking the fifth and deciding set with an 11-8 victory. 

Tufts got victories at positions three and four as Ann Bellinger defeated sophomore Rhea Advani, 3-1 (11-6,11-8,6-11,11-8) and Lauren Banner defeated junior Gabriella Wynne (11-9,7-11,11-4,11-8).

The Blue then took control of the match with victories in positions five through seven. Sophomore Meera Nayar defeated Anna Bezahler 3-1 by scores of 11-3,9-11,11-6,11-6 before classmates Navisha Gupta and Ruby Feng both grabbed 3-0 wins. Gupta defeated Gabrielle Salomon 12-10,11-4,11-3 and Feng defeated Ellen Harvey 11-5,11-9,11-7.

The Blue won the remaining matches by default to take a 7-2 final.

Wellesley squash will return to the MIT courts this weekend when the Blue take on Conn. College at 10:00 AM on Saturday.
