Squash Defeats Conn. College, 7-2

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Wellesley College squash won its second match of the week on Saturday morning, defeating Connecticut College, 7-2, in a match played at MIT.

Sarah Zhang cruised to a 3-0 victory in the number one position, as the Blue first year took scores of 11-5, 11-0, and 11-5 to secure a win over Conn. College number one Ashley Arthur. 

First year Phyllis Lin then won three of four games at number two to defeat Leah Puklin. Lin won by a score of: 9-11,11-9,11-6,11-4, to remain unbeaten through eight matches this season. 

Conn. College got on the board at the number three position, as Mawa Ballo secured a 3-0 (11-9,11-3,11-8) sweep of sophomore Rhea Advani. However Ballo's victory was one of only two in the match for the Camels. Anne Holly also defeated Wellesly sophomore Ruby Feng 3-1 (12-10,11-9,7-11,15-13) at number seven. 

Junior Gabriella Wynne and sophomore Meera Nayar both secured 3-0 victories in the number five and six match-ups. Wynne defeated Adrienne Sieverding, 11-3,11-6,11-5, while Nayar defeated Nina Nalle, 11-3,11-6,11-1.

Sophomore Navisha Gupta then went on to defeat Allie Fuller at number six. Gupta dropped the first game by a score of 8-11 before rallying to take the next three by scores of: 11-9,11-8,11-0. 

Senior Sarah Tammaro and junior Mollee Jain closed out a strong day for the Blue with victories in the number eight and nine match-ups. Tammaro defeat Myra Jacobs, 3-1 (11-5,5-11,11-8,11-6). Jain then swept her way to victory, taking game scores of 11-8,11-4,11-8.

Blue squash will return to action at the Division III Individuals, December 5-7 at Wesleyan University in MIddletown Conn.
