Blue Squash Tops Conn. College, 7-2

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Wellesley College squash picked up an important 7-2 victory over Connecticut College on Tuesday evening. The Blue, currently ranked 24th in the College Squash Association, improve to 9-2 overall with their victory over the 27th ranked Camels. 

First years Sarah Zhang and Phyllis Lin each grabbed 3-0 victories. Zhang defeated Conn. College's Ashley Arthur 11-9, 11-6, 11-6 in the number one matchup, while Lin took an 11/8, 11/5, 11/5 victory over Mawa Ballo. 

The Camels struck back in the number three matchup, as Leah Puklin defeated the Blue's Rhea Advani, 11-3, 11-2, 11-8. However, Conn College would secure only one other victory in the match, as Tori Allen defeated Wellesley senior Sarah Tammaro (11-6, 9-11, 7-11, 9-11) in the number nine match-up.  

The Blue secured a pair of close wins in the seven and eight match-ups as Ruby Feng hung on to defeat Allie Fuller (11-6, 9-11, 11-7, 10-12, 11-8) and Kate Loftus defeated Myra Jacobs despite dropping the first two games in the match (8-11, 10-12, 11-1, 11-8, 11-2).

Meera Nayar (11-6, 11-5, 11-7), Gabriella Wynne (11-6, 11-7, 11-1) and Navisha Gupta (11-7,11-7, 11-4) all swept to 3-0 victories in the four through six match-ups. 

Both teams will now head to this weekend's Middlebury Round Robin Tournament. Wellesley will open play on Friday evening with a 4:30 PM match-up against host Middlebury.
