Squash Drops Saturday Matches at Bowdoin and Bates

Maine — Wellesley College squash played a pair of matches on Saturday, taking on both Bowdoin College and Bates Collegeat their respective home courts. In the first match, Bowdoin defeated the Blue, 8-1, while in the second match Bates earned a 7-2 victory. Wellesley now stands at 9-8 overall on the season. 

First year Phyllis Lin recorded the Blue's only victory in the match-up with the the Polar Bears. Lin dropped a tight first game, 10-12, to Bowdoin's Virginia Ross before rallying to take three straight by scores of 11-9, 11-8 and 11-9 to earn the match victory.

Junior Kate Loftus was the only other member of the Blue to win a game, dropping the number seven matchup to Alex Moreno of Bowdoin, 11-4, 9-11, 11-3, 11-3. 

In the nightcap at Bates, the Blue rallied to take a pair of wins at the bottom of the later. Sophomore Ruby Feng defeated the Bobcats' Emma Korein (11-8, 8-11, 13-11, 11-5) in four games in the number seven match-up, before Loftus was able to secure a victory in the number eight matchup. Loftus defeated Sarah Miller, also in four games, by a score of 9-11, 11-8, 12-10, 11-7.

After spending this Saturday on the road, Wellesley will return home to host the 2015 Seven Sisters Championship next Saturday at Harvard University's Murr Center. The Blue's first match of the day is scheduled for 10:00 AM vs. Vassar.
