Amherst Tops Blue Squash in Opening Round of CSA Walker Cup

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Wellesley College squash dropped a 9-0 final to seventeenth ranked Amherst College on Friday morning at Harvard University's Murr Center in the College Squash Association's Women's Team Championship Walker Cup.  

The Blue will now play St. Lawrence tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM, while the Jeffs advance to play Colby on Saturday at 11:15 AM. Both matches will take place at Harvard's Murr Center. 

Wellesley's top three of first years Sarah Zhang and Phyllis Lin and sophomore Meera Nayar all extended their matches to four games before Amherst was able to secure victory. Zhang was defeated by Kim Krayacich (12-10, 11-3, 6-11, 11-5) in the number one position on the ladder before the Jeffs Arielle Lehman defeated Phyllis Lin (11-7, 11-5, 9-11, 11-8) at number two. Haley McAfee then defeated Meera Nayar (12-14, 11-6, 12-10, 11-6) 

Blue number five Gabriella Wynne also played a four game match, as the Wellesley junior was defeated by Ericka Robertson (12-10, 11-6, 10-12, 11-6). 

The Jeffs took 3-0 sweeps in all of the other matches. Amherst's Tina Palmer-Poroner defeated Rhea Advani (11-0, 11-6, 11-5), while Taryn Clary defeated Navisha Gupta (11-0, 11-0, 11-1), Meyha Sud topped Ruby Feng (11-1, 11-7, 11-4), Khushy Aggarwal topped Kate Loftus (11-3, 11-0, 11-6) and Sarah Tammaro was defeated by Corri Johnson (11-2, 11-5, 11-3).
