Blue Squash Falls To St. Lawrence, UVA on Final Day of Walker Cup

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Wellesley College squash dropped a pair of matches to St. Lawrence University and the University of Virginia on the final day of the College Squash Association's (CSA) Walker Cup at Harvard University's Murr Center Squash Courts.

The Blue were originally slated to play only one match on the day but concerns about Sunday's forecasted blizzard led the CSA to adopt a condensed schedule to finish the tournament.

In the matchup with St. Lawrence, junior Kate Loftus was the only Wellesley player to secure a victory. Loftus defeated the Saints Allis Brazo in four games at the number eight position on the ladder (7-11, 11-3, 11-9, 11-7).

Junior Gabriella Wynne was the only other Wellesley player to get to four games in the match with St. Lawrence, dropping a 3-1 final to Zoe Kagan at number four (11-6, 7-11, 11-5, 11-1).

In the afternoon, Wellesley number one Sarah Zhang and number two Phyllis Lin both earned five game wins to secure both Wellesley victories in the match. Zhang defeated UVA's Carey Danforth (11-9, 8-11, 7-11, 11-5, 11-7), while Lin earned victory over the Cavaliers' Celia Dyer (12-10, 10-12, 11-8, 9-11, 11-8).

Today's Walker Cup matches conclude the 2014-15 for the Blue. This season, Wellesley captured its second straight Seven Sisters Championship and fifth in the history of the program. The Blue also matched their win total from the previous season, ending the year with a 13-11 record.
