No. 23 Wellesley Squash Edges No. 19 Colby, 5-4

BELMONT, Mass. – Wellesley College squash earned a big victory on Saturday afternoon at the Belmont Hill School, upsetting No. 19 Colby College, 5-4. Wellesley, the No. 23 ranked team in the College Squash Association (CSA) rankings improves to 2-0 to start the season.

The Blue earned wins at the No. 1, 4, 7, 8 and 9 spots in the lineup, as well is in the No. 10 exhibition match. Junior Sarah Zhang (Lexington, Mass.) improved to 2-0 in matches and 6-0 in games with a 12-10, 11-4, 11-8 win over Colby's Madiha Molani (Lake Zurich, Ill.) in the top match on the ladder. Zhang's win was one of five Wellesley sweeps, as all five Blue victories were earned three games to none. 

Junior Haley Connor (Boston, Mass.) opened with 11-8 and 11-4 victories over Caroline Pelham (Coconut Grove, Fla.) before surviving a 13-11 third game dual to take the victory at No. 4.

The Blue then clinched the match with wins in the bottom three spots in the lineup. First year Eunbie Coe (Los Angeles, Calif.) defeated Anna Gildea (Weston, Mass.), 11-3, 11-6, 11-1, at No. 7, while junior Meredith Curry (Medfield, Mass.) topped Zoe Dickerson (Dover, Mass.), 12-10, 11-5, 11-6, at No. 8 and sophomore Lumi Kinjo (Tokyo, Japan) bested Annabel Smith (Newton, Mass.), 11-3, 11-1, 11-1, at No. 9. In the No. 10 spot, junior Audrey Fok (Great Neck, N.Y.) defeated Libby Smith (Newton, Mass.) ,11-1, 11-2, 11-2.

Wellesley returns to action on Saturday, December 3, when they travel to Conn. College for a 1:00 PM contest. Colby will also play on December 3, taking on William Smith and Dickinson at Wesleyan.
