Wellesley Squash Suffers 5-4 Setback to Connecticut College

WELLESLEY, Mass. – No. 28 Connecticut College scrapped to a 5-4 victory over No. 22 Wellesley College squash on Wednesday evening at the Dana Hall School's Shipley Center Courts. The win snaps an eight-match winning streak for the Blue versus the Camels, dating back to the 2011-12 season. 

Returning home to host a match at Dana Hall for the first time since a season-opening victory over Boston College, the Blue earned wins in three of the top four matches on the ladder, but five-game victories at No. 1 and No. 5 helped Conn. College swing the match in favor of the visitors. 

At No. 2, first year Eva Mullarkey (Locust Valley, N.Y.) defeated Davis Lemay 3-0 (11-4, 11-9, 11-6). The Blue also got 3-0 wins at No. 3 and No. 4. Junior Haley Connor (Boston, Mass.) defeated Margaret Davey at No. 3 and senior Rhea Advani (Mumbai, India) topped Anne Holly at No. 4. The only other Wellesley victory would come at No. 6, where first year Eunbie Coe (Los Angeles, Calif.) grabbed a 3-1 (6-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-6) win versus Liz Varoli.

Conn. College tuned the match with victories at No. 1 and No. 5 and the bottom three spots on the ladder. At No. 1, Mawa Ballo recovered from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Wellesley senior Meera Nayar (Chicago, Ill.) 3-2 (7-11, 7-11, 12-10, 11-2, 11-9). The Camels also grabbed a 3-2 win at No. 5, where Jacqueline Chu defeated senior Ruby Feng (Old Lyme, Conn.). 3-0 sweeps from Allie Fuller, Phoebe Pliakas-Smith and Caroline Lippincott in the No. 7, No. 8 and No. 9 matches clinched the Conn. College victory. 

Wellesley will travel to Mount Holyoke on Saturday, February 4, for a neutral site match with Williams Smith College at 11:00 AM.
