SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- First year Eva Mullarkey (Locust Valley, N.Y.) earned a 3-1 victory at No. 2, but No. 22 Wellesley College squash dropped an 8-1 final to No. 24 William Smith on Saturday afternoon at the Mount Holyoke College squash courts. Wellesley senior Rhea Advani (Mumbai, India) also played a five game match but came up just short in the fifth game at No. 3 to William Smith's Cashel McCarthy. McCarthy and Advani went back-and-forth in the first four games, with McCarthy winning game two, 11-6, and game four, 11-3, and Advani winning games one and three by scores of 11-6 and 11-3. McCarthy captured the match with an 11-8 win in five.

The Herons won six of the seven remaining matches by 3-0 sweeps, with Gabby Fraser defeating Wellesley senior Meera Nayar (Chicago, Ill.) at No. 1 (11-7, 11-6, 11-5) and Allie Rubin topping senior Ruby Feng (Old Lyme, Conn.) at No. 4 (11-5, 11-7, 11-5). Wins from Dejenba Ballo, over first year Eunbie Coe (Los Angeles, Calif.), at No. 5 and Delaney Teceno, over Meredith Curry (Medfield, Mass.), at No. 6 clinched the win for William Smith. Madison Bradley, Brooke Hayes and Peyton Capute completed the 8-1 win with wins over Lumi Kinjo (Tokyo, Japan), Elena Ubeda (Natick, Mass.) and Audrey Fok (Great Neck, N.Y.).

Wellesley returns home to host Tufts at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, February 8, at the Dana Hall School's Shipley Center Squash Courts.
